Description of Position

Occupational Summary

Research Analysts I are the most junior research staff in the Center. They come with little to no research experience and provide support to a number of projects in a number of ways as they develop research skills. They assist in all aspects of the research process and begin to develop their skills under the direct supervision and mentorship of more experienced research staff.

Work Performed

Lead research studies with support – 15%

  • Conduct literature reviews to identify gaps, generate new hypotheses, and inform existing streams of research

  • Contribute to hypothesis generation for field and lab studies and contribute to study designs

  • Ensure all studies are fielded with fidelity

  • Sometimes responsible for conducting data analysis, drawing conclusions from study results, and determining next steps, with supervision from Research Scholars or Project Managers

  • Occasionally responsible for drafting manuscripts for academic publication and popular press

  • Write IRB applications 

Provide support to research studies and develop research skills – 60%

  • Program studies in Qualtrics and/or write survey documents and compile study materials

  • Create study materials (ex: mailers, prompts, emails, SMS copy, etc.)

  • Create research protocols for lab and field experiments

  • Train research experimenters or coordinators responsible for recruiting participants and running lab studies

  • Serve as study recruiter or experimenter

  • Responsible for editing all academic and popular press articles

  • Keep track of participant compensation

  • Supervise undergraduate volunteers

  • Clean and organize data

Manage relationships with partners and sponsors – 10%



  • Work with sponsor/partner to determine how to implement agreed-upon studies

  • Identify opportunities for new research with sponsors/partners

  • Ensure partner/sponsor expectations are met

  • Train partners/sponsors on behavioral science content and methods

 Provide project management – 15%

  • Ensure components of projects are scheduled appropriately and delivered on-time
  • Take notes during all meetings

Required Qualifications at this Level


  • Bachelors or Master’s degree in a social science or related field


  • 0-3 years of experience since earning a bachelor’s degree and/or undergraduate research experience

Technical Skills

  • Basic research knowledge and familiarity with behavioral science principles
  • Ability to speak and write coherently

  • Curiosity and a passion for inquiry

  • Working knowledge of psychology and behavioral economics

  • Strong time management skills, work ethic
